Photography
I worked as a newspaper and magazine photographer from 2006-2010, so many of the photojournalism and sports photos was from that time in my life. I still photograph my travels and personal projects, all of which can be found below. Hong Kong's neon lights have inspired me to create cinemagraphs now too.
Travel
I have had the opportunity to live or travel to over twenty-two different countries. I love animals and vast landscapes, so you will find a lot of those types of photos in this album. I always look forward to the next adventure and have my camera ready for that perfect moment.
Portraits
I have gone through equipment and phases with my portrait photography. To me, lighting is the most important for portraits. This is one area I hope to add more photos to in the near future. It isn't always easy to find people willing to stand in front of the camera however!
Personal
This is an album of friends, family, and things that do not fit into a better category. I'm fortunate to have great support from so many people, including my little dog who had proved to be a great model while I try new techniques and such. A goal is to work on more off-camera flash.
Wedding and Engagement
I've photographed several weddings for friends and family over the years. I even remotely shot my own engagement session in Hong Kong. I would not consider myself a wedding photographer since I shoot with more of an unobtrusive photojournalism style.
Art
In addition to photography, I have also taken up block printing and some painting. As a photographer, I photograph scenes to use as source material whenever possible. I started out making postcards for friends and family, but it grew so much that I published a children's book!
Cinemagraphs
This is the newest type o photography I've been trying. Cinemagraphs are moving pictures. By just allowing minimal contained movement, you get a better feel for the scene. These are animated GIFs and can be larger in file size. I love the neon lights in Hong Kong for inspiration.
Photojournalism
From 2006-2010 I worked part-time as a photographer for several newspapers and magazines in Ohio. I loved being part of the community and photographing all kinds of events. Photojournalism is great because it is honest, it is straight-forward, and there is some on-the-fly adrenaline!
Sports
I don't have the opportunity to shoot much sports anymore since I'm no longer with the newspaper. I like how demanding it can be to get the perfect shot that encapsulates the game and shows interesting emotion. Sports photography also requires demanding equipment though.
